We may be able to provide free legal help if you have a limited income and are facing a civil legal issue in Maryland. Eligible applicants will be matched with a volunteer lawyer or tax professional who can help resolve your case. District Court Help Center

The District Court Help Centers provides free limited legal services for people who are not represented by an attorney. Counties they assist in are located on their website or call to receive their information for service. They work with; landlord/tenant issue, small and large claims, consumer matters (car repossessions, debt collection, credit card cases), Return of property (replevin and detinue), Domestic violence/Peace Orders, and Expungements.

Judicare Project

The Judicare program can provide you with a free attorney to represent you in a contested family law case in Baltimore County. The attorney will represent you throughout the case. Participation in Judicare is limited to low income individuals. You will be asked to provide proof of your income and will go through a screening process before your case is placed with an attorney. A limited number of program slots are available. Judicare services are available to all.

Immigration Remedies (MEDOVI Project)

The Multi-Ethnic Domestic Violence Project (MEDOVI) provides free immigration legal services to foreign-born Maryland residents who have experienced intimate partner violence, sexual assault and/or human sex trafficking. This is a statewide program.

Family Law Hotline

The Women’s Law Center’s free hotline answers questions about family law. The hotline is staffed by an experienced attorney. While the hotline attorney cannot represent you in court, he or she will provide basic information to help you understand your rights and tell you about other community resources to help you.

The People’s Law Library

Public Defenders Office

The Public Defenders’ Office is a free service that can assist in criminal and appeal cases. They will provide an attorney for representation in these matters. They can represent you for new criminal charges, violations of parole, appealing convictions, assist with matters of involuntary commitment to a mental hospital, Parental defense for Juvenile court cases.
